Dick Landenberger

Dick Landenberger was born in Olney, Illinois, where he learned to play tennis at the age of 14, playing with friends at the park courts.


Landenberger was a Southern Illinois representative at Kalamazoo National 15’s and 18’s. While attending Olney high school, he reached the Illinois state finals in doubles with his lifelong friend and doubles partner, Dick King, who also ended up in Texas. They continued their partnership and created an accomplished record for many years.


Landenberger earned BSME and MBA degrees, and while an undergraduate was the Heartland Conference singles finalist at #1 for three years. He also participated in the All Army Playoffs at West Point Military Academy. Landenberger moved to Texas in 1968 where he began his computer systems sales career, but also stayed very active in age-division play from the 35’s on.


He held the Brookhaven Club Champion title eight times, been ranked #1 in Section fifteen times and #2 for eight times. Landenberger participated on the Intersectional Team seven years and on the Gordon Cup two years ( Cleveland and Montreal ). He has been ranked in the top ten in the nation nineteen times and has represented the U.S. in the World championships in England, South Africa, and Turkey.


The Texas National Top Ten patch has been awarded to Landenberger nineteen times:

  • National 40 Hardcourt –Singles Winner

  • National 55 Grass –Doubles Finalist

  • National 60 Hardcourt -Singles Finalist (twice)

  • National 60 Indoor –Singles Third Place

  • National 60 Grass –Singles and Doubles Finalist

  • National 80 Indoor –Doubles Finalist

2004-2018: Winner Numerous Category ll National Championships including Arizona’s Fiesta Bowl - four times; Las Vegas Senior Open -two times; Palm Springs –The Wilson - five times.

 

Landenberger’s ITF World Championship play includes the following:

  • 1995 Nottingham England –Singles Quarters

  • 2000 Capetown, South Africa –Doubles Finalist

  • 2003 Antalya, Turkey –Quarters

  • 2020 M80 Doubles Ranking USA #2, World #8

Dick and wife, Anita, live in Dallas, a racket’s throw from the courts at Brookhaven Country Club.
