Richard Schuette

Dr. Richard Schuette (1995-2003) was born in Yoakum, Texas and began playing tennis at the municipal tennis courts in Houston when he was 11 years old. He won the National Junior Indoor Doubles in 1952-53, the 1953 Texas Junior Sectionals and the 1953 River Oaks Junior Tournament. In 1955, Schuette was ranked #5 in the nation in men’s doubles with Sammy Giammalva. He won the 1956 Texas Sectional Men’s Singles. He and his partner, John Been, were ranked #1 in the U.S. Men’s 35 and 45 Doubles, winning five national championships together.
Dr. Schuette served as president of the Houston Tennis Association in 1972 and president of the Houston Racquet Club in 1983. He was named Medical Sportsman of the Year in 1974.
