Sammy Giammalva Jr. was a top American tennis player in the 1980s, known for his speed, finesse, and sportsmanship. Born into a tennis family—his father, Sammy Giammalva Sr., was also a pro—he rose through the junior ranks in Texas before turning pro in 1981.
Giammalva reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 28 and doubles ranking of No. 22. He captured two singles and four doubles titles on the ATP Tour and was a regular competitor at Grand Slam events, reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
After retiring in 1990, he remained involved in tennis through coaching and community programs, helping develop the next generation of players.
