Jason Morton

Induction Year: 2003

 

Jason Morton (1928-2011) moved to Texas as a teenager in 1946. He attended the University of Houston where he won the conference title in singles and doubles each year. He earned over 100 gold and silver balls at national tournaments and was ranked No. 1 in the world in Men’s 70 Singles and Doubles and Men’s 75 Singles. He represented the U.S. on eight international cup teams. Morton may be most famous for having chaired the Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs “Battle of the Sexes” match at the Houston Astrodome in 1973.
