James Quick

Induction Year: 1986

Born and raised in Dallas, Lawrence “Jimmy” Quick (1908-1990) defeated nine opponents, in 1922, to win the Dallas City Tennis Championship, showcasing his remarkable skill and competitive drive. As a standout player at Oak Cliff High School, he won the UIL state singles championship for three consecutive years (1924-1926). Quick was also a formidable doubles competitor, finishing second in UIL doubles in both 1924 and 1926. From 1923 to 1926, Quick reigned as the Texas Junior Champion. During this period, he compiled a remarkable streak of 50 consecutive singles victories.

His outstanding performances earned Quick a scholarship to the University of Texas in 1926. Competing at the collegiate level, Quick proved his dominance once again, winning 19 of his 20 singles matches that year. However, his promising college career was cut short when he made the difficult decision to leave school to help support his family.
